DEAR, LOST SOULS

Dear lost souls,

Here’s a letter from a fellow lost soul to you all. I know your struggle, I know your pain, I am aware of your sleepless nights, I am familiar with your morning blues, I know how it feels to be abandoned, I know how it feels to feel unloved, I know that loneliness, I know how it feels to feel lost and I know it because I am one of you, I am a fellow lost soul. I know that weird feeling when you do not understand the journey you’re a part of, I know when at times no Human soul seems to understand you, I know the absurdity when you do not understand yourself. I know how it all seems too dark at times and you feel directionless. I know you, I feel you, I am you. I just want you to know that you’re not alone and that it’s okay to be lost, it means you’re exploring, you’re searching, you’re trying for you can’t be lost if you’re static.

The world may give you different labels, calling you an over thinker or an attention seeker, depressed or anxious, a romantic or a day dreamer, but what you need to know is that the labels would keep coming, it’s what the world does, but it depends on you what you define your world as, whose validation matters for you more, yours or theirs. You may doubt yourself with each coming label, you may crib and cringe, whine and criticize yourself for being who you are, but you need to understand that no one will accept you until you accept yourself. The labels won’t stop coming until you put a stop to them. You may not know what you’re going through, you may not have a word for it. You make seek help from others and they may leave you further confused. Some may call it depression, some may call it “growing up”, some may call it a phase, while some may simply call it your nature. Just know that no matter what name you give it, your situation won’t heal until you let it open. It won’t heal until you let loose and embrace it, until you accept it and let it take its time. It may take days, weeks, months or years, but it’ll sort itself. It’s a process and you have to be kind enough to yourself to let it heal. The validation you seek from others, has to come from within you because that’s the only validation that matters.

Now this doesn’t mean that you should be completely ignorant of what people around you tell you, for they are indeed your best critiques. Some of them work with you, some live with you, while some share great bonds with you, these are the people who know you, so of course their validation matters. But what you need to know is how to filter them. You need to draw a line. You need to take into account what you feel is really true and needs to be worked on. Rest are the junk files you need to delete. You need to turn a neutral eye on yourself and everything around you for a while so that you stop taking issues and remarks personally. I know it’s easier said than done, but trust me, it’s the best gift you can give to yourself. There’s a teeny tiny little inner voice within you, which often goes suppressed and unheard, I say listen to it. Amongst all the hustle bustle and the chaotic voices outside, listen to that inner voice which is guiding you about the stuff that matters. It’s your gut telling you whether to take or not take that step ahead. I don’t say it’s always correct, but for the most part, it is. It is that God inside you, which you try to seek outside and fail to find. You’re searching in the wrong places.

For a soul which has known darkness for too long that it almost seems as a part of your existence, it is difficult to see the world the other way round. For a soul that has felt too much and nothing at the same time, it is too difficult to be ‘normal’ with its conduct. I know that the world doesn’t seem a happy place to you, that it is all too ugly and dark, but remember that the stars shine the brightest in the darkest of nights. Surely the number of bad souls have out done the number of good souls, but don’t feel disheartened at this. Take it as a challenge from the universe, rather a task given to you, for being your best version possible each day, for the world needs good souls like you. You’ve to be a new seed for the abundantly cut down trees. You’ve to identify and attract the fellow good souls and create strong positive energies which will act as a shield against the darkness. I know it all seems too virtuous, whatever is written here, but trust me if we manage to do even half of it, the world would be a better place. I pity those souls who are doing all the wrong and the evil in the world. I pity them because they are even more lost than we are, they are directionless for the darkness has won over them. They need help. But you dear soul, are lucky, for you still have it in you to find your way back. You aren’t as directionless as you think yourself to be. You can rather help those poor digressed souls by showing them the other side of the picture, by not letting them win.

Being a lost soul I know that you’re always on a quest, a quest to know the unknown, to decode those faint memories you carry along from an unknown time, the feeling of home you miss for you’re lost, the magical connections you form with some strangers and the feeling of déjàVu you encounter every now and then. I know the unbelievable feeling when your intuitions come true, when you meet a person you were just missing or receive their call. The feeling of not feeling comfortable in your skin, the detachment from your fellow souls where you just can’t connect, can’t relate to them anymore. I know it all, I have been there, I am there and no matter how lonely it feels, we are all there. Some just realize and some don’t. But you’re lucky if you do realise, for you are in a place where you can help yourself. So the next time your parents don’t understand you and call you names, the next time your partner refuses to accept your struggle labelling you again, the next time your boss or teacher(in some cases) acts like a jerk, the next time someone disrespects you and tries to violate his/her limits, don’t hate them. Just smile and walk away from the situation and in some cases from the person as well and if need be show them their place so that they dare not repeat it. Respect and love yourself enough to walk away from anything or anyone that doesn’t make you grow at the same time keeping in mind the advises you think are worth keeping.

The world may still seem a dark place, you may still struggle from a low self esteem and an even lower self confidence, there’d be days when you wouldn’t want to get up from the bed and would be too tired to take another step, but know that these are exactly the situations where you need to act and take that stand. Just know that there are souls fighting much worse battles than you are, still not giving up on themselves and it’s in their honour that you have to keep going too. That’s how the universe finds its balance. I may not believe in the conventional idea of God but I do believe that we have a connection with the universe beyond ourselves and it’s all about energies and vibrations, which find their way through us and bind us all together, I believe it is the same energy which has enabled me to connect to such fellow souls like you and tell you how much you matter, how much you belong and how it’s okay to be a little lost, it helps you find your way.
