NEHA BHASIN’S song TABAH, Which she released in the year 2011 is not much talked or written about, thanks to the “popular music hype” that we presently are dealing with. TABAH is a revolutionary song that challenges established the idea of love and romance in the present day. The song highlights a woman’s agony over the pain of heart break getting into a battle inside the self. She doesn’t want to conform to the ideas of love and courtship set up under Patriarchal notions. She doesn’t want to submit her unconditionally to her lover even if he cheats her. She rather enters into a battle and puts a strong foot forward and asks him how could he belittle her into thinking that she wouldn’t survive without him. The protagonist fights even being emotionally ruptured on the inside where she says that love ruins. Neha bhasin in this song has very cleverly showed a cycle that present day women in love go through. A cycle where she is psychologically conditioned about the idea of romantic love which is fed by society, that she has to be submissive , but at the same time she challenges her own mind to liberate herself from these notions and walk towards independence. The lines “Aise kaise kyun na kabhi maine jaana Bewafai thi tumhari ragon mein Kya socha tha jee na paungi arrey jaao” are thrown as a challenge rather than following a traditional “I will wait for you or can’t live without you” notion. “Sehre gham tha dil ka haal rooh se behti azaa har raat thi be- nor har wo raat ye ishq karta hai tabah” Lines talk about the middle of such transformation where she’s burnt due to the pain of an emotional death within herself Whereas lines Ab hoon main khud mein kahin Hoon main yahin yahin yahin Tumse main ab nahin Yun chalti hai yeh roshni mujh mein Hoon benayaz mujh mein Hoon main hoon main hoon main Talk about The liberation, a woman who has successfully liberated her from the traditional notion of love to being in love with her once again. This marks freedom, freshness, an air to breathe. It also highlights a cycle, the confusion of every broken heart goes through. From being ‘Oh I m ruined’, to ‘Oh you really thought i would ruin myself over you?’ to ‘ I will win’ to ‘ ‘I have won ‘ back to ‘love ruins’ The protagonist is definitely an ideal warrior heroine for every girl struggling with pain and pieces of a broken heart. She is the new woman who wouldn’t drown in the waters of emotions rather rise above the ground even after getting burnt down to ashes. She is the phoenix that we need and she is absolutely inspiring for that matter. Neha bhasin superbly sings it and fuses the rock with a bit of classical Indian music touch to make this song a Dynamic mix of power. The Amalgamation of rock with Indian touch has painted this song on a new canvas to make it taste very good for all music lovers. This is why we love Neha bhasin and her unique voice and not to forget her revolutionary touch to music in a world where everyone’s still bearing those songs with lyrics objectifying women and becoming huge hit under the false pretense of being a “rock music”.
