What are ethics? ethics is the branch of philosophy that involves systematizing ,defending and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. (Wikipedia)
Though human beings are social by nature yet at the same time are individualistic too. our love for company might bring us contentment but it also brings with it a sense of competitiveness leading to unscrupulous oppressive , treacherous behavior and cruelty . Mahatma Gandhi said " I object to violence because when it appears to do good , the good is only temporary the evil it does is permanent" . violence is one of the vices germinating from unethical behavior.
When it comes to children , it becomes really important to make them aware of the moral duties and enhance them with ethical knowledge . children's literature plays a very important role here. they need a proper guide to move on in their lives in order to become a good human being. John locke , an English philosopher in his theory of "tabula rasa" refers to an epistemological idea that individuals are born without built in mental content , a child's brain is like a blank slate with one important difference : whatever is written on the impressionable mind becomes indelible and cannot be easily erased and more often it lasts forever as adults we have not forgotten the stories read at younger age. books really have a great impact on the child's psyche . it becomes really important to see what a child's brain is receiving and what are the effects of it on his/her overall behavior.
Technology these days is conquering over the thousands of young minds , at this particular time , it becomes really important to make them aware of their moral duties and their religion , and not only about their particular religion but in fact about all the other religions so that they can move forward to become a great human being. "character building" should be the goal of every educational institute as well as parents ethical knowledge should be transmitted through the native language.
Good books expand perspectives , promotes critical thinking , broaden the horizon , help in appreciating and understanding the bond we share with nature , flora and fauna and how it is the duty of us all to preserve it.
Hence a good and a positive knowledge should be transmitted to the children. gift them good books instead of the latest gadgets. turn them to the road of spirituality, religion and love. emotions is what differentiates human from the other living organisms.
